Trio for oboe, horn, and piano

A piece for oboe, horn, and piano - why? Both the horn and the oboe have their pitfalls, they are called comparatively "difficult" instruments. That may be true, but I believe that these two representatives of the wind instruments if played very well, are also the ones having the most beautiful, the softest and the most vocalic sounds of all the other instruments of the respective class. Of course, I am a horn player, I have played a lot of woodwind and other chamber music. For me, such an instrumentation offers, on the one hand, the best opportunity to work musically as intensively as the music itself deserves and on the other hand to be able to interact with each other in a sensitive and direct manner at the concert. Nevertheless, my heart beats for the sonic variety and abundance of the great orchestral music as well. How could such contradictions be combined? For me, the piano with its immense technical and musical potential completes this trio in an ideal way. Since as long as I can remember I have been being thrilled with later romantic music. Of course, in the course of the education (and always more and more every day), one becomes familiar with almost all epochs and learns to appreciate them, but I must confess that R. Strauss has always fascinated me even more than R. Wagner. His imagination, the diversity of tones, and generally the "the sun in his music" do not stop impressing and inspiring me. This spirit and how he expresses himself, let me always forget the rest of the world. And if this state of being able to forget is denied to somebody, Strauss' music does not stop giving hope and does not let anybody , especially in the currently depressing crises, forget the good within us. However, chamber music by Strauss? Unfortunately, there is hardly any! And so I try to combine my ideals withín this work: pure music in a small cast, which without any program speaks for itself through my favorite instruments: A humanistically positive image captured in a sound! Ein Stück für Oboe, Horn und Klavier - warum? Sowohl das Horn, als auch die Oboe haben ihre Tücken, man nennt sie vergleichsweise 'schwere' Instrumente. Das mag vielleicht stimmen, doch nach meiner Überzeugung sind diese zwei Vertreter der Blasinstrumente, so sie denn sehr gut gespielt werden, auch die Ton-schönsten, geschmeidigsten und gesanglichsten ihrer jeweiligen Gattung. Natürlich, ich bin selbst Hornist, habe sehr viel Bläser- und auch sonstige Kammermusik gespielt. Für mich bieten solch kleine Besetzungen die beste Möglichkeit, um einerseits musikalisch so intensiv zu arbeiten, wie es die Musik verdient, andererseits dann auch im Konzert feinfühlig und unmittelbar aufeinander reagieren und miteinander musizieren zu können. Trotzdem schlägt mein Herz ebenfalls für die klangliche Vielfalt und Fülle großer Orchestermusik. Wie ließen sich solche Gegensätze verbinden? Für mich komplettiert das Klavier mit seinen immensen technischen und musikalischen Möglichkeiten dieses Trio auf ideale Weise. Schon seit ich denken kann, bin ich begeistert von später romantischer Musik. Natürlich lernt man im Laufe seiner Ausbildung (und darüber hinaus jeden Tag ständig dazu) nahezu alle Epochen kennen und auf ihre Weise schätzen, doch muss ich gestehen, dass mich über R. Wagner hinaus vor allem R. Strauss schon immer fasziniert hat. Sein Ideenreichtum, die Klangfarben-Vielfalt und generell "die Sonne in seiner Musik" beeindrucken und inspirieren mich nach wie vor. Dieser Geist und wie er seinen Ausdruck findet lassen mich immer wieder den Rest der Welt vergessen. Und wenn einem das Vergessen verwehrt bleibt, so gibt Strauss' Musik doch immer Hoffnung und lässt einen, vor allem bei den aktuell bedrückend vielen durch den Menschen verursachten Krisen das Gute in uns nicht vergessen. Doch Kammermusik von Strauss? Gibt es leider kaum! Und so versuche ich mit diesem Werk meine Ideale zu verbinden: reine Musik in kleiner Besetzung, welche ohne Programm durch meine Lieblingsinstrumente für sich selbst spricht: Ein humanistisch positives Bild in Klang gefasst!
