The circumstances surrounding the commissioning of In Memoriam were decidedly, indeed compellingly, different from those of other works I have been asked to compose. Absent were the typical points of discussion between composer and commissioning party pertaining to lenght, difficulty, contract and fee negotation, etc.
Commissioned by The Revelli Foundation in memory of long-time Bands of America friend and colleague, L.J. Hancock, Director of Bands, Norwin High School, North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania Premiered June 29, 2002 at Illinois State University by the Bands of America Summer Symposium Director's Band Alfred L. Watkins, Conductor.
