Noten für BlasorchesterGreensleeves
Greensleeves is a famous and highly valued English folk song. It originated in the Renaissance and is one of the oldest songs that are widely known in Europe, appearing in a songbook already in the 1500s. The tune has also been used with other lyrics, for example in various Christmas carols. One theory is that the song was written by King Henry VIII, who was interested in music. Though this is unlikely, since it seems to have been written after his reign, many people have associated the song with him and his love for Anne Boleyn. The "Greensleeves" theme also appears in an original work for concert band, more specifically in the 4th movement of the "Suite no. 2 for Military Band" by Gustav Holst. Another British composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams, used the theme in 1934 for his orchestral work "Fantasia on Greensleeves".
