"Entr' Act for Band" was commissioned by the J.S. Battle High School Band and was first performed at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic with H. Scott Lambert conducting. Attention grabbing tone clusters begin this work and introduce the fresh harmonies and rhythmic motives which are developed throughout the overture-style piece.
The primary theme bubbles and percolates while setting the positive atmosphere characteristic of the theatrical entr' acte. A contrasting middle section with jaunty, syncopated rhythms provides a Latin feel which gives way to the joyous final reprise with soaring woodwind and horn obbligatos.
