1. Danse de Craiova et Caracal
This Allegro Vivace consists of two contrasting melodies; the first is a variation of the characteristic songs from Craiova and Caracal, the second comes from the satiric song Munea ta n-o cruti o bei of Suceava.
2. Berceuse Mélancholique
This Andante con Moto takes us to the dreamworld of a child (through) the lullaby aidi nani, piuiu mamii played by the bassoon.
3. Danse de Transsylvanie
This Scherzo Leggiero in 5/8 time, uses as theme a variation of the song Draga mi-e fata saraca from Resita. Like a classical scherzo there is a trio-like part in which the clarinet playes the song Bata-te Muichita Bata from the country of Banat.
4. Chansons de Brasov
This Andantino Cantabile is written in the classical three-part form. The main theme is a variation on the sad song S-asa-mi zice iedera which contrasts with the military song Munte, munte, piatra seaca from the country of Suceava.
5. Fète Populaire
This strongly rhythmical part concludes the suite with the evocation of a whirling folkfeast. First the vivid theme of the Sirba dominates, then the suite ends with a piece of virtuous gipsymusic.
