Montevallo Celebration was inspired by Jim Mahaffey's return to his hometown, Montevallo, Alabama, in the spring of 2002 as guest conductor for the newly-organized Montevallo Cummunity Band. Mahaffey conducted the band on several of his published works durnin the concert which was held in the original auditorium of Montevallo High School, his alma mater (depicted on the dust jacket). The Works was composed in a style reminiscent of the band literature composed and published during his school years. Marked "energetically", it should be played in a celebratory style, no slower than 140 to the quarter note-
