KOOS MARK was born at Leiden, The Netherlands, on August 27th 1944. When he was 6 years old he got his first trumpet lessons from his dad. In 1958 he was admitted to the Royal Academy of Music in The Hague, where he studied trumpet, piano and composition. During his study he already formed part of the Residency Orchestra (“62 – “64). After termination of this study he joined the Royal Military Band as solo trumpet player (from ’65 till ‘”73). From 1973 on he confined himself to other disciplines: composing, arranging and conducting. As conductor he had the musical direction of the theatre programmes of Mini and Maxi, André van Duin and Robert Long. He also pursued the supervision on the production of the musical “Tsjechov” of which the CD was awarded with an Edison. As musical leader he was involved in a great number of theatre and TV programmes in The Netherlands. Internationallyhe was a.o. arranger for artists like Udo Jürgens and Petula Clark. Both in 1993 and 1995 Koos Mark wrote the winning composition for The International Competition for Entertainment Music in St. Gallen Switzerland. In 1994 Koos Mark was asked by Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven to write the band arrangements for the liberation programme “We’ll meet again”. This collaboration is now continuated in their new programme “Tin Pan Alley”, in which also The Koos Mark Big Band takes care of the musical accompaniment.
Since 1972 this Big Band is one of the most all-round bands of The Netherlands. It played in various TV and Radio productions and performed as accompany band with dance, ballet and musical performances. Also a lot of national singers were and still are accompanied, such as: Lee Towers, Donna Lynton, Thérèse Steinmetz, Soesja Citroen, Robert Long and so on.

In the meantime the band has also acquired a good international reputation. After performances in Belgium, Luxemburg and Germany the Koos Mark Big Band made a big tour in Switzerland in 1995 and 1996, where they a.o. performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the “Festivala Internationale du Film de Comedie” in Vevey. During the opening night of this festival the band gave a concert in the garden of Manoir de Ban, the private house of late Charlie Chaplin. This established a nice relationship with the children of this genius man, which yielded in a wealth of music material. Therefor, Koos Mark is now preparing a Concert Show about the life and work of Charlie Chaplin.
