This opera 's nearly impenetrable plot limits its number of modern performances but the overture amply displays the composer 's mastery of the orchestra. Mark Rogers' transcription for band first appeared in the Southern catalog in 1980. Among the options offered by the 2001 revised set is the possibility of performing the score in the original key of E minor/E major or transposed down a half-step to E-flat.
