Williams was commissioned to compose this piece for the USAF Strategic Air Command Band and was invited to conduct its premiere that same year. This march exists in two versions, the Concert March and the Service March. The primary differences is that the Service March is shorter and takes aspects from the Concert March trio as its main theme. Consistent in sonority with Williams' other compositions, this concert march serves as an interesting contrast to the familiar styles of John Philip Sousa and Karl King.
